It’s thought that more than ten MILLION tons of bikes’ tires and inner tubing is discarded each year across the world. That’s such a waste, isn’t it? To put that huge amount into some sort of context, that’s enough to fill the Empire State Building eight times over. Shocking isn’t it? Something needs to be done to stop this unnecessary waste (most bike tires are made of complicated blends of rubbers and plastics and are difficult to recycle).

Well, Nexo Tires might well have found the answer. They’re currently crowd-funding to launch an awesome-sounding new product that might stop all that waste. They’re calling the new innovation ‘The Airless Bike Tire’ and you’ll soon see why (they have no air in).

The idea of ‘flat-free tires’ on bicycles might not be entirely new, but the old designs – from the eighties – were heavy and clumsy and offered little in the way of shock absorption. So mountain biking would be out of the question. Nexo Tires, though? It’s a whole new ball game. They’re made of polymer and they offer amazing cushioning, by all accounts.

You can get thousands of miles out of them and you’ll be able to buy just the tires or brand new wheels with the tires already fitted…

Recycling (pardon the pun) is so easy too. These special tires are made from just one material, so recyclers have no trouble reusing them once your 5,000 miles are up.
