After a entire day spent kicking back and bathing in the sun’s rays, these special bicycle paths light up for a full ten hours, making bike riding so much safer and easier. Solar-powered glow-in-the-dark bicycle paths… What a truly brilliant idea! And much like most other brilliant ideas, it’s so wonderfully simple too.

The faint blue lighting isn’t glaring or distracting, it’s just light enough to see and guide night cyclists on their way. It’s an idea being championed in Poland and while it’s only in the testing phase currently, plans to roll it out across the country are being made.

Okay, so on very dim winter days mired by wind and rain and storms and dark clouds, they might not have the juice to light up the paths and have them shining too brightly, let’s face it – that isn’t weather to be out on your bike anyway, is it?!

The original idea was inspired by another bike lane that they also have in Europe – in the Netherlands – which is known as ‘The Starry Night Lane’. But this goes one better – replacing LEDs with solar-powered lighting.

How cool are these, eh?!
