The Simpsons is the greatest animated show of all time. Perhaps even the greatest TV show of all time. Sure, it’s tailed off a little in the past few years, but they’ve created some of the funniest television moments ever. And they’ve been weirdly good a predicting the future too. Not least of all getting the events of the past few days correctly. Yeah, that’s right, they predicted the Donald Trump presidency. Seriously.
Sixteen years ago, Simpsons writer Dan Greaney and his team of co-writers came up with the episode ‘Bart to the Future’, in which Lisa is elected to the office of president after Trump is in and ruins the world’s economy…
“It was a warning to America,” Dan says. “That just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was consistent with the vision of America going insane. What we needed was for Lisa to have problems beyond her fixing, that everything went as bad as it possibly could, and that’s why we had Trump be president before her.”
Yup. It was a joke. Simpsons creator Matt Groening even said they chose Trump because he was the most ridiculous person they could think of…
This is crazy. Check out how the prediction went down:
And here’s some more… With Lisa Simpson specifically predicting the Trump Presidency…
