So the creepy clown saga rumbles on. Following a string of incidents across the USA and beyond, including a children’s entertainer being murdered by a paranoid mob and a woman being accidentally shot in a case of mistaken identity, Barack Obama’s administration has decided to ban the sale and wearing of clown masks. In a law that takes immediate effect, anyone found to be wearing a clown mask will face a fine of up to $50,000, and the possibility of a jail sentence.
The White House released the following statement:
“In light of recent incidents, we have taken steps to curb the “creepy clown” epidemic that is sweeping across our nation. From today, the sale or exchange of clown masks is prohibited. Anyone found selling these items will face a prison sentence and have their business seized by the state. Furthermore, the wearing of such masks is also illegal as of immediate effect. Individuals found wearing clown paraphernalia will be issued with a $50,000 fine, with an additional jail term for repeat offenders.”
With Halloween approaching, it is believed that the Obama administration is attempting to nip the creepy clown craze in the bud before things get seriously out of hand.
However, the news has not gone down well in the children’s entertainment industry. Ronnie Rosenthal – aka Dave the Clown – of the entertainment performer’s union, the CCU, said, “For many of our members, performing as clown acts is their livelihood. These members trained as clowns immediately after leaving school. They are otherwise unskilled. This ban will put these individuals on the scrap heap.”
