Liaocheng, Shandong Province, China. A man by the name of Liang Lei spots a young child in trouble. A small crowd has gathered outside a building and they’re all staring up at a toddler that has become trapped between two window bars by his head. The small boy was dangling precariously. A shift of his head and he would be freed, but would plunge to his almost certain death, several stories down.
Liang knew what he had to do and wasted no time in becoming the hero. Scaling the sheer face by climbing, he eventually made it up to the toddler, at great personal risk. Once up there, he managed to free the child and the pair were pulled inside by someone inside the building.
He said this about his remarkable heroism: ‘I got here and found the boy barely moving. His legs were shaking. I decided to climb up as I thought he was in danger. The security window left a trace on the boy’s neck. If the boy turned his head, he would fall from the gap of the bars.’
