It’s only been a day and already it looks as though some of President-Elect Donald Trump‘s election promises have turned out to be bullsh*t. The former Apprentice host and billionaire was elected as US President on Tuesday in a shock decision. And there are already cracks in the new regime…
Trump rode on a wave of popularity that stemmed from his controversial comments about topics like immigration. He specifically said that he would ban all Muslims from entering the USA and build a wall to keep Mexicans out.
Only he’s already admitted that these were just lies designed to appease the voting public and that he has absolutely no intention on sticking to either promise. That’s according to a leak from a speech given yesterday. Off-stage, while removing his mic he answered a question from an aide about why he hadn’t addressed immigration in his speech.
“What?” He was heard to reply. “Screw that. We’re not blocking Muslims or building a damn wall. You should know better than that,” he went on. “What? So, I lied. What do you expect? I’m a Goddamn politician now!”
By all accounts his aide laughed along nervously, but many of his campaign staff are said to be unhappy about his reneging on election promises. And so soon after election. They worried about how it might make them appear and have implications on their careers.
Trump’s camp haven’t officially commented on his statement, but it is expected that when they do, they will imply that Trump was merely joking and that he still has every intention to follow up on his elective promises.
We’ll have to see what he does from January 20th 2017.
