There’s been talk about the possibility of a multi-million dollar fight between MMA’s UFC champion Conor McGregor and ex-boxing champ Floyd Mayweather for years. It’s never happened for various reasons. Schedules, insurance… The main reason? It could never be agreed which discipline and rules would prevail: Mixed martial arts or boxing?
The general consensus is that if it were MMA – Floyd’d get his a*s kicked. If it were boxing, Conor would lose. But the Irishman’s boxing skills have improved, he’s in his prime. And Floyd’s retired. Boxing would be the platform. And it could well be on.
Mayweather’s been vocal about The Notorious recently, saying this: “I’m an elephant. An elephant don’t beef with ants. An elephant is so large he don’t even see ants.”
And on Tuesday night, at a New York City club, McGregor had his say back…
“Floyd’s not ready for this,” McGregor shouted. “Much respect to Floyd. He’s a solid businessman on what he’s been able to do, he’s a f*cking animal at what he’s been able to do. But as far as real fighting, as far as true pure unarmed combat, Floyd don’t want none of this.”
“He wants a boxing match, he doesn’t want a fight. I want $100 million cash to fight him under boxing rules. He’s afraid of a real fight.”
Sound crazy? Nah. Manny Pacquiao banked that much for fighting Floyd…
