Farmers in a Nigerian village were left red-faced and not a little upset to discover that the ‘Giant Killer Snake’ that they found and killed was neither giant nor killer. Though at least it was a snake. An African Rock Python, to be precise.

The non-venomous python kills by constriction, but worried locals after it slithered into their village. The snake was big, so the farmers assumed that it had killed and eaten some livestock. Concerned that the snake might do more damage and affect the food supply, the men killed the snake…

But it was only when the snake was opened to up (presumably to see what was missing from the livestock) that it was discovered that they were all wrong. The python was, instead, pregnant. With an unbelievable amount of eggs inside her.

No one was overly upset, though. The eggs are considered a bit of a local delicacy…
