Redwood City, California. A young teenage girl at Woodside High School is updating her Instagram feed. In a post she innocently declares her support for the new President-elect, Donald Trump. In the post – sent before his election victory – she said how she hoped that Trump would win. When he did, she was set upon by aggressive kids at school, presumably representing the views of their parents or the media.
Jade Armenio‘s attack was captured by a fellow pupil on video (as these things so often are nowadays). So her humiliation was tenfold. But she’s bravely come forward and told her story. And it seems as though her story is echoed. There have been scenes of violence abound against pro-Trumpers since the election.
“This girl come up to me and said “do you hate Mexicans?”‘ ‘I said “no” and she said “you support Trump, you hate Mexicans,” Jade told the local TV news in a recent interview.
Jade has also received hate mail and death threats and her mom has now pulled her from the school while the matter is investigated.
It’s sad that this is how people respond to political discourse nowadays. You should be able to hold a belief and not get attacked for it. Here’s more on the story:
